Monte Maggio Sangiovese Merlot , Chainnti Classico wine
Fattoria di Montemaggio is a family-owned winery in Radda in Chianti, which is located in the center of the Chianti Classico area.
On the site of an important Roman road from Siena to Florence, the 14th-century tower previously stood.
Montemaggio also appears on a map of the “Captains of the Guelph Party” in the Podesteria di Radda, which dates back to 1560 and depicts the “Captains of the Guelph Party” (Town Hall).
The name Montemaggio stems from the literal translation of “Monte Maggiore” (The Great Mountain).
The estate, which is a member of the Chianti Classico Consortium, is situated at a high altitude between 450 and 600 meters above sea level, covering 70 hectares (approximately 200 acres) of vines, olive groves, and woodlands.
The vineyards, which cover an area of 20 acres, are situated in the middle of the estate with a nice south-west exposure.
There is a high concentration of galestro, sandstone, and alberese in the soil.
They grow most of our grapes in the vineyards, with Sangiovese representing for most of the grapevines, and little additions of Merlot, Pugnitello, Chardonnay, Malvasia Nera, and Ciliegiolo.
Due to the natural microclimate and the specific location of the estate, Montemaggio is able to offer a wide range of products.
The following are the products:
Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, Montemaggio IGT’s Chianti, Ilaia di Montemaggio IGT, Chardonnay, Grappa and the extra virgin olive oil. Chianti, Chianti Classico, Montemaggio IGT, IGT’s Chianti di Montemaggio.
Montemaggio is dedicated to the production of “Terroir” wines of exceptional quality.
We can examine the quality of each bottle to ensure the buyer gets a really distinctive product.
Vineyards for the wines were planted at a very high density per hectare (6250 plants/hectare in some vineyards), resulting in extremely high yields.
We therefore produce a lower yield per hectare (35-60 Ql/ha, depending on the vintage), which is controlled through pruning and selection processes.
Cordon speronato, Alberello, and Guyot are the most often used training systems for vines.
Along with the exposure (south-southwest), the slopes, the microclimate, the soil, and the meticulous work, these qualities contribute to the development of superb and authentic Tuscan wines.
