Some Young Punks epitomise the very best of New Australia. The winemakers, also knowns as the ‘punks’ include Col McBryde (voted Australia’s Young Gun Winemaker of the Year), Jen Gardner (self-evident nerdy yeast specialist ) and Nic Bourke. Like the majority of the new breed of intriguing, youthful winemakers in Australia they are not transferred by porty Shiraz and search rather a feeling of restraint and place the wines, determined by the best of the Old World and the New. Nevertheless being media savvy and with a sense of humor permits this quietly-spoken but earnest bunch to advertise themselves and also to deliver a fresh way of labelling. Expect to see progressively alarming labels sported by more intriguing and completely unique wines. Grapes are selected carefully and thoroughly tracked and bought locally. In authentic punks fashion there is a twist into the wine making process; there is some pine fermentation and a number of solids fermentation.
